 Information for Prospective Growers:

Tasmanian Alkaloids provides a large range of services and support for a great many poppy growers farming in different regions of Tasmania.

Our strategies for the development of new products and desire to remain an innovative market leader means that we aim to provide the best levels of assistance for all growers who choose to contract with our company. We provide many rewards for growers, including details on the latest advances for all aspects of poppy farming.

Poppies are grown on a three-year crop rotation cycle. Sowing is in spring (September), flowering in early summer (December) and harvest in mid-summer (February). Following harvest, the poppy seed is separated and sold in a clean, natural condition for the spice trade.

Separated capsule enters our extraction facility where the alkaloids are removed from the plant material by a warm solvent percolation system. The final product is called "Concentrate of Poppy Straw" (CPS).

Tasmanian Alkaloids produces two types of CPS: One has as its main component Morphine, the main component of the other is Thebaine.

Morphine is converted into Codeine. Thebaine is converted into a range of strong analgesics such as Oxycodone and Buprenorphine.

Tasmanian Alkaloids is a leading company in its field and is always looking for associations which can be mutually fulfilling and successful.

We hope that you take the time to look at the kind of support levels we provide by going to the Grower Support Services page. An initial expression of interest in applying for a contract is available by phoning Tasmanian Alkaloids on 6393 5202, or by using the online form here.
