 Health and Safety Policy 

Tasmanian Alkaloids is committed to ensuring the occupational health, safety and welfare of all persons who may be affected by our operations. Safety is the first priority and we will continuously improve our workplace through the elimination of unsafe conditions and practices.

In order to ensure that occupational health and safety is successfully managed, Tasmanian Alkaloids will:

  • Give you the authority to stop work if you are concerned with your or anyone else's safety.
  • Ensure that you are appropriately trained, supervised and provided with adequate information to undertake your duties safely.
  • Provide and maintain equipment and workplaces that meet all relevant standards.
  • Consult with you on matters related to safety as appropriate.
  • Comply with all relevant State, Federal and other applicable legislation.

 Duties of Management and Supervisors 

Managers and Supervisors are accountable, within the scope of their authority, for the safety of their operation and personnel. Tasmanian Alkaloids expects every manager and supervisor to treat health and safety as a primary concern in carrying out their work ensuring that:

  • All employees are trained in policies, procedures and standards.
  • Regular audits of the workplace and work practices are conducted to ensure standards are being maintained.
  • Immediate and appropriate steps are taken to rectify hazards in the workplace.
  • Any safety-related matter is communicated to employees.
  • Safety performance objectives are met.

 Duties of Employees, Visitors and Contractors 

No work is so important that you should endanger either your own or others health and safety. You should:

  • Comply with all safety policies, procedures and programs including, but not limited to,:
    • Isolation - Lockout and Tagout;
    • ERGO;
    • Industrial Hygiene;
    • Machine Guarding; and
    • Safe Behaviour.
  • Report any hazard that you consider to be unsafe for you to correct.
  • Report all incidents, including near misses.
  • Participate in safety programs.
  • Undertake only those tasks for which you have authorisation/training and for which all the necessary safety arrangements are in place.
  • Cooperate with measures introduced in the interests of workplace health and safety.
